Increase your well-being by thinking positively

Electing to be positive is always best

Happiness is a journey, not a destination where one arrives. Many psychology experts report that being happy is a personal decision and therefore everyone has the ability to modify their thoughts to feel better, in such a way that one should not seek happiness but rather live it daily all your life. But, how is this goal achieved? This article offers ten strategies that can be followed to be more positive and therefore to feel more comfortable with yourself and with your life.

Celebrate achievements:

Celebrating small goals can encourage you to achieve bigger ones. You should not only celebrate big achievements but also small ones. Rewarding yourself for your efforts means positive mental and spiritual reinforcements that drives you to keep going in life.

To maintain a positive mind, celebrating achievements must be constant. Celebrating helps us to reinforce behaviors and attitudes. Constantly recognizing the efforts, discipline and other actions taken to achieve goals makes celebrating a habit.

Learn from mistakes:

We must keep in mind that no one is immune from making mistakes. The mistakes we make can be excellent opportunities to learn. Many successful people say that often the key to success comes from failure.

The European Institute of Efficient Intelligences points out that to learn from mistakes you have to be self-critical, but you need to do it in moderation and with a constructive approach. You learn better from mistakes if you focus on the present and if you adopt flexible thinking and where you forgive yourself when you realize that a mistake was made. Additionally, you have to genuinely forgive not only yourself but also others.

Be thankful

Gratitude is defined as a feeling, an emotion or an attitude of recognition of a benefit that has been received or will be received. A United Nations article on the science of gratitude points out that grateful people are happier and more satisfied with their lives in general.

Being thankful makes the person experience more hope, optimism and better performance at work and other activities such as studies.

Gratitude helps us manage negative emotions such as loss and stress and therefore it will improve our mental and emotional health. It also strengthens personal relationships and brings positive emotions to both the ones who are grateful and the ones who receives the thanks.

Live in the present:

Our minds allow us to relive to the past and foreshadow the future. However, living in the present moment means confronting both the positive and negative things that happen to us in life having an open approach.

The present moment allows us to remain in a state of full attention, looking inwards and accepting the now in the best way possible.

The past is important to reflect on and learn from. We must take into account the past has already passed and will not return. We cannot change the situations we have experienced, but what we can change is our attitude to improve the present. The future has not yet arrived so it is not worth speculating or feeling anxious about the uncertainty. Focusing on the past or the future prevents us from enjoying the now, so living and valuing the present is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself in life.

Surround yourself with people who are positive and value you:

Being with optimistic and enthusiastic people increases motivational levels and makes us have a better attitude even in difficult times. Without a doubt, the company we have around us significantly influences our outlook on life and how we feel in general.

Positive people not only motivate you, but they are also a source of inspiration. Often, these people offer you emotional support as they have an empathetic and understanding attitude.

Positive people generally have a broad perspective on life and therefore have the ability to see problems from different angles. Surrounding yourself with positive people allows you to open your mind to consider new options for addressing problems and challenges.

Positive people do not see you as competition but as an accompaniment. They generally value you as a person and celebrate your triumphs sincerely. Positive people are happy when you do well.

Pay attention to personal image:

Mental well-being is linked to your perception of your own image. An article in Caras Magazine points out that the perception we have of our physical appearance directly influences self-esteem and self-confidence. Our personal image is an essential part of who we are; it is a way of communicating to the world what we are and think about ourselves, so we must pay attention to it.

To feel better you have to dedicate time to taking care of your image. Dressing in comfortable clothes including accessories that fit your taste makes you feel better. The people around you perceive you better too.

Do exercise:

Doing physical activity helps reduce the risk of suffering from depression and anxiety. An article from the Mayo Clinic notes that exercise stimulates many chemicals in the brain that can make you feel happier, more relaxed and less anxious.

Additionally, exercise is an important tool for improving mood. Staying active increases muscle mass, helps you lose weight, and improves overall health.

Eat Healthy:

Eating healthily is one of the most important gifts one can give to the body. Having a healthy diet not only helps you to live longer, but also influences your skin, teeth and eyes.

Several neuroscientists say that the brain and gut are linked, so what we eat has an impact on both the body and the way we feel. To have a happy brain you must consume probiotics and prebiotics such as fermented foods. The diet should also include products rich in omega-3 such as seeds and fish. In addition, you should eat foods that help produce norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin, such as nuts and cereals.

Rest:

We must not forget that to rest, you need time. So when you are resting, you are very busy dedicating yourself to resting.

Resting well is essential for health. A tired person cannot concentrate well and it is possible that tiredness causes a bad mood. There are many ways to rest, one of them is by changing activities. The best of all is to sleep since sleep allows the body to recover. In addition to being a great pleasure, sleeping well has positive effects that make us feel better.

 Learn something new:

Learning something new can change the way you think or how you feel. When you learn something, you are exercising your brain to forge new neural patterns that help develop new brain connections and this is excellent because it increases brain capacity in general.

It is never too late to learn and use time productively. This generates well-being because when you learn something you can realize that you are a useful person.

To conclude, a positive and optimistic mindset releases feel-good neurochemicals such as dopamine, endorphin, oxytocin, and serotonin. These are the four hormones that are involved in the biological process that highlights the feeling of happiness. Happiness is enjoying the little things in life and true happiness is not in having, but in being.
